Rich Barker, plays saxophones and flute, and got his start in Vancouver B.C. He played on the road for 11 years with his show band called the Note-Ables. Rich sang, arranged, and played in Las Vegas, Reno, Lake Tahoe, Miami Beach, and in the Bahamas. He recently moved to San Juan Island from Lexington Kentucky, and is composing and arranging original choral music.

David Brown, plays lead acoustic guitar. He was a member of Dr. Corn’s Bluegrass Remedy in Portland Oregon for 100 years, now plays with San Juan Jazz Quintet at Bella Luna on Sunday nights. An island resident, music teacher and jack-of-all-trades, David also plays solo and small group gigs for local events.

Thor Hanson, plays double bass, and has been a part of the local blues scene for several years. Interested in primate behavior, and conservation biology, he recently finished up doctoral graduate work in Costa Rica and Idaho. Thor has family and roots in the San Juans.

Dick Rich, lead electric guitar, has been a San Juan Island resident for 18 years. His primary musical interest is Jazz, and Country and Western. Dick has been playing with the San Juan Jazz Quartet since 1992. In his day job, Dick is a radio-physics engineer and airplane pilot.

Dennis Willows, drummer, has lived in Friday Harbor since 1963, played with SJJQ for about 15 years, and enjoys jazz, blues, and other classical music. Recently recycled out of the UW Friday Harbor Labs, he does research in neuroscience, and (to keep off the streets and out of the bars) is a volunteer skipper on the UW Research Vessel Centennial.
